Mandala of Volunteers
Paul Hawken writes in his recent book, k Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Social Movement in History Is Restoring Grace, Justice, and Beauty to the World, about our shared planet. He asks us to envision our earth as a living organism buffeted and strained by potentially mortal challenges. What does a living being do when threatened? It marshals an powerful immune response. He asks us to recognize that all of us who care and who work to effect change are that immune response. In written history there have never been so many people working on behalf of others. There are over a million organizations on the planet working for peace, environmental stewardship, social justice, and the preservation of diverse and indigenous culture.
Artist Chris Jordan has made a mandala of the names of those million-plus organizations. It's a glory to behold.
