Glad that someone is happy to know me, and looking forward to meeting children who wear superman outfits to supermarkets. I have to endure facing squash coaches, other children and mothers at the squash coaching class chaperoning a son who has black unwashed feet (he mostly goes barefoot), long hair which he has cut himself rather unevenly, (to my mother's eye, very endearing in a funny sort of way), and one long thumb nail (which I can't stand)! Just warning you about what you are about to embark on if you associate with us! But before you decide (and others on this site), that we are horrible people, let me tell you that the older two have grown out of this kind of stage and are able to engage socially up to the extent that they need. They have learned how to balance, juggle, walk the social tight rope. My daughter is actually managing to make some people at the institute she's joined, to meet her half way. And she is quite shy, and non-aggressive. Just firm and refusing to bend unless she deems fit. One of her teachers admitted to me that he learns a lot from associating with her! I think that is quite something, more for him, actually, that he can be open after his first few hard days of trying to argue her out of what he thought were 'unrealistic notions.

Urmila,
We'll be there on the 27th. I'm breathing and letting go... but i can't wait for the house help ;-) The letting go feels beautiful but isolates me in a social sense as the other moms make me uncomfortable and then i have to keep reminding myself that i need to honor the children's wishes.... even if it means one of the children wearing gumboots and a super man outfit to the supermarket.... full with flying cape. All this in 90 degree heat :-)

See you soon. I can't tell you how happy and relaxed i am knowing that there is a fellow unschooling parent in the same town !!!

With metta, Hema

Dear Friend,

I have been away from this site since my mother died and wasn't keeping up well with it during her final illness either. And today I finally get back to it to find that you have done so much to keep it going. All of us are blessed by your energy and vision and willingness to share so much of what you know.
Every time you write I sense our kinship. I hope that you and I can keep communicating, and who knows, perhaps meet some day. Thank you so much for all you contribute to the conversation. May it continue to flourish.

gratefully,
Laura

I've been wanting to invite friends for awhile, but didn't know a short cut to adding addresses. Recently, I manually copied the IDs and then typed them in one by one. In my hurry, many had errors and bounced back! It is interesting to me that three of the four friends who responded are connected with mirambika. Perhaps Laura is meant to get a good overview of mirambika, and perhaps Asha is meant to get an insight into mirambika too!

Hello Urmila,

Thank you for joining us. I think there's so much we can learn from one another as we share our experiences and insights. I've been homeschooling for ten years now. What wonderful years. The kids have learned so much as they read, play music, explore, make friends, experiment, help the family and generally grow into the people they were meant to be.
I think that progressive education of all sorts will become more essential in the upcoming years.

Please feel free to invite others to join our discussions, post free range learning topics of your own and/or to email me separately with your answers to any of my questions for the upcoming book.

thank you,
Laura

Hrut Collage - A project I dreamed up in 2006.

Today, the 22nd of September, is an auspicious date for me. It is the birthday of a friend who first helped me become conscious of
this work that was going on within me, constantly troubling me. I was always reading and hungry for more
information and ideas about how to make education more human, more alive, more
equitable, more relevant to the times….
This was way back in 1987.
Although it was a very immed

I am very excited to be here!

I am looking forward to reading, interacting and learning with all you people at freerange learning. We haven't ever sent our children to school and have never stopped being happy with our decision, through the inevitable ups and downs, fears and joys, discoveries and miracles. It is great that there are so many families who live this way, and their numbers are growing all the time.

"If I had the influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over
the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in
the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last
throughout life, an unfailing antidote against the boredom and
disenchantment of later years, sterile preoccupations with things that are
artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength."
