"If I had the influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over
the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in
the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last
throughout life, an unfailing antidote against the boredom and
disenchantment of later years, sterile preoccupations with things that are
artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength."

Laura, sorry if you're getting this twice, but EO's for the bees! I'd have never thought of it! Makes a lot of sense. Way cool!
Thanks for the info.

How's it going with your dad's estate stuff. What a pain. My did sure did plan well though and take care of us. His will was LITERALLY 3/4 inches thick.
Going to a friend's mother's funeral tomorrow night. I guess we're of that age when we're going to our parents' funerals and our kids' weddings....
Sigh....
How will you sell all the stuff in your dad's home?

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I thought there was a "ding' on my email that let me know there was a comment waiting for a reply, but apparently I have to check each member's page to see. Yike.
Anyway, we don't use any chemicals or medications for mites or disease with our bees. In early spring and late fall when we feed (diluted honey, sometimes sugar water) we add essential oils. There's a lot of good research on the antibiotic and antiseptic properties of oils for bees. I was looking through my bookmarks trying to find some of the "recipes" I'd saved to send you but can't seem to locate the links.

So tell me, exactly what do you have to do with the bees nowadays...I remember some strips for mites the bees walked on etc. Just wondering. I'd like that to be a 4-H project someday....er, maybe.
I'm so appreciative of honey now that I was a beekeeper, as I'm sure you are.
I didn't know about fertility probs with the miniature cows etc. Goats just seem more likej "pets" though for the children, so that's why I wanted them.
Good luck with the forum.

We have a lot in common. I live on a much smaller farm than you. We have naturally raised cows, bees and about 45 free range chickens. I too have had to balance my creative aspirations with the demands (and joys) of parenting, so you have my sympathy. I'd love to heare your insights on our current discussion topics. Lots more to come.
warmly,
Laura
